Virginia Beach Fishing Report, Virginia Beach Offshore Fishing report- Dolphins

On Thursday, June 20th, The Waterman and her crew took out a charter of Electicians from Virginia Beach, Northern Virginia and Baltimore. The guys started out at a weather bouy to snag a few of the plentiful amberjacks that have been feeding under the bouy. This served as a great way to get the newbies to fishing a few important lessons while also getting some meat into the boat. This lesson proved good while dolphin fishing later in the day with the greenhorn getting his fish to the boat without any struggles! Once we moved on from the weather bouy and started trolling we hooked up to a citation (25 and 1/2 pound) dolphin, aka mahi mah. Check out the on board pictures to see just how "lit up" the fish is. When dolphins are feeding they become "lit up" to communicate to others that there is food in the area (poor thing this one became dinner). While trolling we also saw other amazing things like pilot whales, offshore porpoises and a really old sea turtle. We caught two more dolphins filling the fish box with three dolphins and three amberjacks. Int he late afternoon before heading home we had a white marlin pile onto our teaser and then glided about as the mate feed him the line, as fast as he flew in he flew out with his pectoral fins straight out. He was all lit up and quite a sight for all to see. Unfortunately this marlin wasn't up for eating and dove down deep. The excitement of the moment was exhilirating though.
